We are tidy.
◾️ Pick up after your dog. It’s bad juju if you don’t. Fill your karma bucket and pick it up. Mutt Mitt stations have been requested via the city. Once installed, there should be no more excuses. You know who you are.
◾️ Let’s talk about illegal dumping. It’s a big problem in West Beach and the following section has ton of information about it. Illegal dumping is putting unwanted items like mattresses, couches, chairs, vacuums, etc. at the curb, by city garbage cans, on a sidewalk or on a parkway (strip between curb and sidewalk). It’s super uncool and can carry a hefty fine to boot. Dumped items are making their way into creeks and culverts and homeless encampments. Let’s help our city out! There are several designated drop-off places for your bulky unwanted items and all single-family homes and complexes are eligible for two FREE annual pick-ups from MarBorg (call 805-963-1852 to inquire).
If you witness a dumping incident, call 805-564-5686. You may remain anonymous and the details are important. If you see items that have been illegally dumped but not who did it, contact Marborg at 805-963-1852. Please note the closest street address for faster service.
Let’s discourage illegal dumping in our neighborhood by:
1. Landscaping the parkway in front of your property with plants or rocks will often cause a dumper to look elsewhere.
2. Placing a visible sign near your carts/cans or trash enclosure may repel a dumper.
3. Installing motion detector lights for trash enclosure areas and street lamps should be in working order. To report a street light problem, call 805-564-5416.
4. Talk with your neighbors! Collaborate to watch for unusual activity in your neighborhood.
◾️ Passionate about the environment? We need you! Become a Lower Mission Creek Steward so you can liaise with the SB Urban Creek Council. The creek council will coordinate a volunteer clean up day for the Lower Mission Creek area and overflow culvert whenever our waterways need some extra TLC. Email wearewestbeach@gmail.com if interested.
◾️ Call the city arborist at 805-564-5433 if a tree on your street needs some extra attention. Healthy trimmed trees protect power lines, keep branches from masking street lights and make our neighborhood LOOK GOOD! The system is in place, so make a call.
◾️ Looking for something to do even during their after COVID lockdown? You can pick up trash on our streets! Looking Good Santa Barbara has a super easy program. First, request a waiver by calling 805-564-5669. Once signed, you will be granted access to the Granada Garage storage locker that holds everything you need: bags, gloves, trash picker-uppers, graffiti remover - the works. You can go for supplies anytime the mood strikes.
